Rare Photographs of Rabindranath Tagore

Dear Friends,

9 May 2013 marks the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. As our humble tribute to the great poet, a set of rare photographs of Rabindranath Tagore has been published in the online forum of Overman Foundation. All these photographs—with the exception of the first snapshot (taken in Japan) and the last two taken at Pondicherry in 1928 in which Tagore is seen descending from the ship on his way to meet Sri Aurobindo—have been sent to us by Mr. Nilesh Nathwani. We take the opportunity to thank him for his generous gift.

With warm regards,
Anurag Banerjee

Moments that stay locked in Time are beautifully revealed in these photograghs that are a rare treat of great souls that tread upon this earth. Coming to meet our Lord Sri Aurobindo was the last sacred pilgrimage of Sri Rabindranath Tagore. Great historic events. Great pleasure to see them. Thank you dear Anurag for this lovely presentation. 6. My most revered personality in the field of Science, Albert Einstein, with eyes burning like a Rishi’s,
My most revered personality in the field of Arts, poetry or painting, Tagore with the tender look,
    – it was indeed a treat to have them on my computer screen. They seemed so near, so near, palpably present.
We have seen them both umpteen times, may be seen them together also in magazines etc.
But to have this famous duet on my computer screen………this was something so different.
And to tell you the truth, there is such a genuinely beautiful intention behind, which is felt and which makes
all that you upload so beautiful, so meaningful …………Congrats Anurag. I do wish you from the deeps of my heart
many a new adventure and the joy of discovery. Move on. Move on. Just move on.

  8. 1) I have seen in Mrityunjoy-da’s collection two photograph of Tagore which are far more clear. – the one coming down from the ship in a pandal, was a very good close up too !
    2) It appears that on seeing Mother Tagore was completely taken aback and asked the Mother, ‘ Is it indeed you, Mirra Richard ?’ During those days, Yoga was going on at the vital level and Mother looked like a little girl of 16 !

    Srikant,
